HARTENBERG ESTATE is at the forefront of the new era of South African winemaking. It was in 1986 that the then new owners realized it’s potential. So began a process of change that has resulted in the Estate producing some of the most distinctive and sought after wines that the premium Stellenbosch wine-growing region has to offer. The farm has accumulated many significant awards, among these being the best Merlot in the world (International Wine and Spirits Competition 2008) and third best Shiraz (Syrah du Monde 2008). As a member of the Biodiversity and Wine Initiative in South Africa our natural wetland will be maintained for generations into the future. The Hartenberg vision, though extremely ambitious, remains simple: to do whatever it takes to produce wines of outstanding quality by anybody's standards.  Carl Schultz – Winemaker
